Airgas Raises Helium Prices By 20%

Airgas Inc. (ARG) said it will increase prices of helium by an average of 20%, which the specialty gas supplier attributed to rising crude helium prices amid an ongoing shortage. The company said the change is effective immediately or as contracts permit, adding that some increases may differ based on market conditions or contractual provisions. Higher crude helium prices are being charged by the Bureau of Land Management to helium refiners, Airgas said, which in turn have driven up the cost of pure helium from suppliers. Supply chain disruptions remain a challenge for the industry as the global shortage and resulting allocations of helium are nearing the end of their third year, the company added.
