House Leader Expresses Support for Action on Helium

The chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, Rep. Hastings (R-WA), published an article in The Hill emphasizing the need for prompt action on legislation to continue sales of helium from the federal Helium Reserve. The article summarizes the key components of legislation that the chairman plans to introduce soon, and states the clear need for the Reserve to remain open in 2013 and beyond. The article is favorable in articulating the chairman’s belief on the need for legislative action, but it also identifies a number of substantive issues where he differs with the bill pending in the Senate, S. 2374. It will be challenging to reconcile these competing interests in 2013.
