Nationwide Helium Shortage Fears

There may be fewer balloons at your next party as the country faces a helium shortage. Helium is only found in limited quantities underground and an increased demand for the gas is greater than the supply. Party-supply companies across the US are being affected but the shortage also affects science and medicine. The gas is used in experiments and to cool down MRI machines. The shortage is expected to last through 2019.
